Prescription Drug Take Back Program

The St. Francis Police Department is conjunction with the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office provides an on-going prescription drug take back program. The goal of Prescription Drug Take Back is to provide a convenient drop off location for the public to dispose of unused or unwanted prescription drugs. This program will accept unwanted prescription drugs from non-commercial, residential users only. No syringes, needles, or other hazardous materials will be accepted.

Participation in the program is free and anonymous. All prescriptions will be disposed of on a “no questions asked” basis. A drop box is located in the lobby of the St. Francis Police Department, and prescriptions will be accepted during regular business hours.

According to the Partnership for a Drug Free America, about 2,500 teens get high off of prescription drugs for the first time every day. To date, the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, along with its law enforcement partners, collected nearly 12,500 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs and safely disposed of them.

The pharmacy, by law, is not able to take back controlled substances including:
Adderall®,
Ambien® (zolpidem),
codeine,
oxycodone,
OxyContin®,
Percocet® (oxycodone-acetaminophen),
Ritalin® (methylphenidate),
Valium® (diazepam),
Vicodin® (hydrocodone-acetaminophen),
Xanax® (alprazolam) and others.

When bringing medications to the pharmacy the original packaging is required in order for the pharmacy to accept it. This is to ensure controlled substances are not acquired by the pharmacy.
